Engineering Methodology

Continuous consumption rate (g/h) equals process flow (m³/h) times target dose (mg/L) — dimensionally exact, since 1 mg/L applied across 1 m³/h is 1 gram of chemical per hour. For SBS/SMBS dechlorination, the target dose is derived from free chlorine to be removed times a dosing ratio (mg SBS per mg Cl₂) — the theoretical stoichiometric minimum is ~1.46 mg NaHSO₃ per mg Cl₂, with practical field ratios of 1.5-3.5x for reaction-time and mixing safety margin.

Batch mixing back-calculates from the day-tank volume and intended batch duration: total active ingredient needed equals the continuous consumption rate times the batch duration, which sets the neat product mass/volume (accounting for product purity and, for liquids, density) and the dilution water that fills the rest of the tank. The metering pump flow rate reduces to a clean identity — tank volume ÷ batch duration — since the whole tank is designed to be consumed exactly over the chosen duration at the required dose.
