Engineering Basis

Methodology

Calculates usable storage, nominal turnover, and interval inventory continuity from declared inflow, outflow, and duration. Nominal turnover is not actual water age, RTD, T10 tracer contact time, or disinfection CT; this tool does not calculate T10.

Usable storage = gross storage × user-entered usable fraction. Operational storage is separately entered as a declared operating-storage basis and remains a subset of usable storage.

Nominal turnover time = usable storage / average throughput; nominal turnovers/day = average throughput / usable storage.

Interval continuity uses Snext = Scurrent + (Qin − Qout) × duration. When physical limits are enabled, overflow is recorded above the maximum and supply shortfall below the minimum; the modeled endpoint is limited to the applicable bound.

Working storage swing = maximum modeled inventory − minimum modeled inventory, including initial inventory and all modeled interval endpoints.

Scope / Limitations

  • Review usable volume, turnovers, trajectory extrema and working swing. Unbounded mode preserves entered overflows or shortfalls and warns; bounded mode tracks them explicitly.
  • Nominal turnover is not actual water age, residence-time distribution, T10 tracer contact time, disinfection contact time (CT), or a mixing-performance measure; this tool does not calculate T10.
  • The interval calculation is a storage continuity screen. It does not simulate hydraulics, mixing, or water quality.
